How to configure your antivirus software to allow network access

  1. Before you proceed, you will need to get the ip addresses of all the computers on your network. Here's what to do:
    1. On each computer, click 'Start', click 'Run', type cmd (or command if using Windows Me or earlier) and click 'okay'.
    2. Type ipconfig in the menu that appears and press 'enter'. Make a note of the ip address that displays (This is a series of numbers, separated by dots).
  1. The following explains how to configure Norton Internet Security. Even if you are using alternative software, the steps will be broadly similar.
  1. Open 'Norton Internet Security'.
  2. Select 'Personal Firewall' and click on 'configure'.
  3. Select the 'networking' tab
  4. Click on 'add' and follow onscreen instructions to add all the ip addresses of the other computers on the network.
