How to connect your computer to the network

  1. If a computer does not ping, check the following on all computers on the network:
    1. Click 'Start', and click 'My network places'.
    2. Click 'view network connections'
    3. Right click on the connection(s) that your computer uses to access your network.  (usually 'Local Area Network' and/or 'Wireless network connection' ).
    4. Click 'Properties'. On the menu that appears,  in the box under ' This connection uses the following items:'  ensure that the item(s) relating to TCP/IP are checked. Under most circumstances, it is useful to check the other items in this list also.
    • If the network still does not work, proceed to the next step.
  1. Remember to restart antivirus software. If doing so shuts down your network connection then proceed to: how to configure your antivirus software to allow network access
